Firstly, we discussed the three act structure and the Syd Field paradigm which explains how most stories are split into three acts. Act One is the setup, act two is the confrontation and act three is the climax / resolution.

After this, we watched the initial 27 minutes of Gladiator (Ridley Scott, 12th May 2000). This is what's called the "set up". The reason for which we watched this part of the film is to be able to understand how Ridley Scott and other directors use the concept of "show, don't tell" to describe and outline the characters and main protagonists. Therefore, this is to see how the writer and director show us the character's personality rather than telling us.
After having watched the small excerpt of Gladiator, we were tasked with making up a story that was derived from a simple line.
"A young couple move into a new house and find a pair of shoes in the wardrobe."
My group came up with the following story idea:
"Young couple, Michael and Rachel Brown, move into a new house. In the bedroom, there is a blue wardrobe from IKEA. Michael finds a pair of Jordan's in there. The left Jordan has some toes in there. Michael is dismissive and does not realise the toes and tips and throws them away and keeps the shoes.
The shoes make him great at ice hockey and are indestructible."
