day 1 - wednesday 9th october 2019

On Wednesday 9th October, I started the first day of the production of my teaser trailer 'Hidden Spirit'. In the photos above, I used my Canon EOS 700D DSLR camera for the filming, a RØDE microphone to record audio and a Vivitar tripod to maintain stability with all of the shots.

Firstly, I went outside in front of my house to film the opening exterior establishing shot for the trailer. This can be seen in multiple photos above. I carefully made sure to use the rule of thirds when filming the establishing shot as I know from my research that this makes your shots much more streamlined and easier to the viewer's eye. To make this easier, I used a setting of my camera that put an imaginary grid on the viewfinder screen - this enabled me to see how my shot would be aligned so that I could make adjustments to the framing if needed.

Overall, from the first day of production, I have learnt how to effectively use framing and rule of thirds to enhance the clips in my teaser trailer. I think I now have a much better understanding of how to use rule of thirds to highlight the actor on screen and from now on, I will use this setting on my camera when working on future projects.
day 2 - thursday 10th october 2019

On Thursday 10th October, I continued with the production of my teaser trailer 'Hidden Spirit'. I used a variety of shot sizes in order to create a convincing character and also to portray my knowledge of different shot types / sizes.

One of the main problems I came up against whilst filming my teaser trailer was the lack of space to film in my house. To resolve this issue, I just had to make the most of the space I had available to me by placing the tripod and camera in an optimal position for shooting. Although there was a lack of space in the filming location, I don't think this really hindered the production too much.

The decision I took to use a grid to help me frame my shots throughout the production process was heavily influenced by my research of D4Darious who is a filmmaker and a YouTuber who likes to teach people about film. I watched a video as part of my research that Darious went into great detail about the rule of thirds and framing / composition. I really found this video useful and very informative and is the main reason why I took the decision to ensure my framing during filming adhered to the rule of thirds.

Overall, I have gained a deeper knowledge of how framing, composition and the rule of thirds has a big impact on your film and also the audience to an extent. I have also been able to overcome space issues when filming on location due to living in a small sized house with not much space. Next, I will focus on the post-production of my teaser trailer and start to edit my footage together to create the final product using what I have learnt as inspiration and to influence my teaser trailer.
post production - editing
On Monday 14th October, I started the editing process of my teaser trailer 'Hidden Spirit'.

I imported all the clips I filmed last week and put together all the clips in the direction of my screenplay script.

I have chosen to use the sound track from Bensound.com called Evolution which is composed by Benjamin Tissot.

On the left are two rough cuts where I have placed all the footage in the trailer on the timeline to create a sequence of around 1 minute and 20 seconds.

I also have used an Adjustment Layer to allow me to add colour correction to my teaser trailer. This has allowed me to correct white balance and enhance the overall colour look.

I have also introduced some use of FOLEY in the form of a sound effect of footsteps along concrete. I used this towards the end of my teaser trailer when the protagonist 'RICHARD' walks out the front door, down the footpath and over to the right out of shot.
The video on the left from Justin Odisho is a video I watched to gain some more knowledge on the basics of colour correction and how to do this to my trailer in Adobe Premiere Pro.

Justin goes into detail about using Lumetri Scopes which I feel is a little bit too advanced for my teaser trailer so instead, I have used the very basic colour correction settings to enhance my trailer.
