music video pre production and planning
artist info
Meduza are an Italian production trio consisting of Matt Madwill, Simon de Jano and Luke Degree. They are a relatively new band but nonetheless well known as their debut single was "Piece of Your Heart" which they created in 2019 in collaboration with the British production trio Goodboys and was so well received that it peaked at number 2 in the official UK singles chart.
I have chosen to create a music video for the song "Lose Control" by Meduza featuring Goodboys and Becky Hill. The reason for which I've chosen this particular song is that the video is unique as there is no real sense of narrative, it is all abstract with no performance elements either. I also like this song because it suits my music taste and with the video being abstract, I can re-create my own version and be as creative as I like with multiple different shots with varying amounts of colour and locations.
The music video was shot in Turkey by Black Dog Films' directing duo Grandmas. The clip was filmed in and around the abandoned residential development of Burj Al Babas, near the town of Murdurnu. There was a plan for over 700 homes to be built and they were designed to look like miniature castles. Construction at the development began in 2014, however falling oil prices and instability in Turkey contributed to the lack of sales meaning that, eventually the developer was forced to become bankrupt.

lyric analysis
"Lose Control" - Meduza; Becky Hill & Goodboys
[Verse 1: Becky Hill, Becky Hill & GOODBOYS]
Why do I feel like I'm drowning?
Like I'm running out of air? Ah-ah-ah
Why do I feel like I'm falling
When I'm nowhere near the edge? Ah-ah-ah
[Refrain: Becky Hill, Becky Hill & GOODBOYS]
Just let me know
Can you be the one to hold and not let me go?
I need to know
Could you be the one to call when I lose control?
[Chorus: GOODBOYS, Becky Hill & GOODBOYS, Becky Hill]
Ah-ah-ah-ah, ah, ah-ah-ah
I need your love, ah, I need your love, ah
Ah, ah-ah-ah-ah, ah, ah-ah-ah
I need your love, ah, I need your love, ah
Ah-ah-ah-ah, ah, ah-ah-ah
I need your love, ah, I need your love, ah
Ah, ah-ah-ah-ah, ah, ah-ah-ah
Could you be the one to call when I lose control?
[Post-Chorus: Becky Hill & GOODBOYS]
When I lose control? (Ah-ah-ah-ah, ah)
When I lose control? (Ah-ah-ah-ah, ah)
When I lose control? (I need your love, ah)
When I lose control? (I need your love, ah)
When I lose control? (Ah-ah-ah-ah, ah)
When I lose control? (Ah-ah-ah-ah, ah)
Could you be the one to call when I lose control?
[Verse 2: Becky Hill, Becky Hill & GOODBOYS]
I know I can be destructive
And I can change the atmosphere, ah-ah-ah
All I ask from you is patience (Patience)
Some patience (Patience), some patience (Patience)
[Refrain: Becky Hill]
Just let me know
Can you be the one to hold and not let me go?
I need to know
Could you be the one to call when I lose control?
[Pre-Chorus: Becky Hill & GOODBOYS]
When I lose control? (Ah-ah-ah-ah, ah)
When I lose control? (Ah-ah-ah-ah, ah)
When I lose control? (I need your love, ah)
When I lose control? (I need your love, ah)
When I lose control? (Ah-ah-ah-ah, ah)
When I lose control? (Ah-ah-ah-ah, ah)
Could you be the one to call when I lose control?
[Chorus: Becky Hill & GOODBOYS, Becky Hill]
Ah-ah-ah-ah, ah, ah-ah-ah
I need your love, ah, I need your love, ah (Oh)
Ah, ah-ah-ah-ah, ah, ah-ah-ah
I need your love, ah, I need your love (I need your love), ah
[Post-Chorus: Becky Hill & GOODBOYS]
When I lose control? (Ah-ah-ah-ah, ah)
When I lose control? (Ah-ah-ah-ah, ah)
When I lose control? (I need your love, ah)
When I lose control? (I need your love, ah)
When I lose control? (Ah-ah-ah-ah, ah)
When I lose control? (Ah-ah-ah-ah, ah)
Could you be the one to call when I lose control?
My first impression of the song is that it is in a house style that focuses on the issue of friendship or relationships and not being able to keep control of their loss.

From looking at the lyrics, I would expect the song to be quite a sad song, however upon listening to the track, it is obvious that it is quite an upbeat song that is targeted towards an audience who favours house music over other music such as rap or hip-hop.

The message of the song is not necessarily portrayed through the lyrics, that's to say it is rather more through the tone of the track that makes the song feel like an upbeat song. While watching the video, I picked up on the fact that at the start of the clip, the characters featured are rather still and mute, this is to convey their sense of loneliness or isolation. The one thing that is conveyed in the lyrics is that at the start, they are in need of a person or people to feel content and towards the end of the video, you see the main characters interacting with one another as if they are much more content when they are surrounded by people and positive vibes.

music video for "lose control"
The song I intend to create a music video for, Lose Control by Meduza, already has one which was made by the Black Dog Films' directing duo Grandmas in Turkey.

I intend to create something different than this music video by being creative and using various camera angles, locations and using editing to cut to the pace of the music. Also, I won't be including any "characters" as seen in the video and throughout the clip. Instead of this, I will be crafting compositional shots framed within the rule of thirds to create a convincing aesthetic.

I will use colour grading in Adobe Premiere Pro to correct the original footage and adjust the warmth, saturation, hue and brightness to enhance the music video and make it look similar to the original video.

target audience profile
Based on Young and Rubicam's psychometric audience profile, the profile I have chosen for the character below is mainstreamer. This is typically a person who are unlikely to take risks and prefer tried and tested brands over newer, lesser known brands.
