I wrote the script for my sound design project today called The Illicit Competitor. I used the online website called Celtx to write and form my script because it has all the preset elements of a script that you can include already on there, meaning that there is less work for me and means that I can focus on writing the script whilst being able to have a correct format and structure for the script. In total, there are four different scenes in my script for the opening scene which are made up of two interior scenes and two exterior scenes.

Also, the typography that I used on the script software is the standard font that is used on most industry standard screenplays which is Courier. This will make my script look much more professional and aesthetically pleasing.

After having written the script for The Illicit Competitor two days ago, I proceeded today to create a shot list based upon the script I have written. There are a total of 14 shots including the fade to black effect at the end of the opening scene. In the shot list, I numbered all of the shots as well as including the shot type, description of the shot, the location of the shot and finally which cast members would be required for that particular shot.
The main reason for creating a shot list for my project is to ensure when it comes to filming the opening, I know which shots I need to shoot and how many shots I need to film. This is also to ensure that I do not waste time when filming and to make sure I film the best quality shots I can on filming day.

Today, I created a storyboard based upon my shot list that I created last week which details a short description of what shots I intend to shoot and briefly what they will look like. The reason for which I created a storyboard is to help me when I am producing my project and to help and support the actors and director as a way of knowing what needs to be filmed and how it will be filmed.

Today, I experimented with the software called Adobe Audition CC 2018 which is an audio mixing and creation program. I was given a handful of royalty free sound effects from which I had to create a convincing audio, non-visual storyline. The reason for which I completed this task is that it will help me when it comes to the post-production of my actual sound design project because I will be able to use this software to focus on the editing of my audio and then I can sync this and input the edited audio from Audition to Premiere Pro thanks to the seamless software from Adobe.

Today, I have finalised the location of where I will be filming which will be at my house in Great Leighs, Essex. I will be using my DSLR camera which is a Canon 700D with my own tripod that I can use as well. I have a range of different lenses, including a wide angle and standard kit lens, to choose from so I will aim to use a range of all of them to be as creative as possible.

I will be filming most of my shots tomorrow on Friday 29th November 2019 and I have approval from my tutor to do this on this day. If I don't finish all of the shots required on Friday, I will film on both Saturday 30th November and Sunday 1st December to get all the remaining shots.

Today, I filmed all of the shots needed for the initial edit of my opening scene. Below you will see an array of photographs which show the behind the scenes of filming the scene.

As you will see from all of the photos, I used a tripod whilst filming to ensure all shots were stable.

Today, I started compiling the footage I filmed last Friday onto the timeline in Adobe Premiere Pro to create a rough style edit. This is before I add any additional sound effects/voiceover.

Today, I used the Audio Studio in TLR for two hours to record the voiceover piece for my Sound design project that will overlay a medium shot of Phillip in the film to serve the purpose of a personal monologue.

I decided to record the voice over using the audio studio because the microphone in the studio sounds highly professional and due to the studio being sound proof, there was near to no background noise so that recording will sound very crisp and clear.

With regards to my planning, when I was writing the script for this project, I included a piece of dialogue which would form the basis of the voice over for the Phillip character. The script helped me when recording the voice over because I could read directly off a piece of paper rather than improvising on what to say as this would have sounded unprofessional and would clearly show a lack of preparation.

When I arrived at the audio studio, the floor microphone was initially too high for my height. To solve this, I managed to manually adjust the height of the microphone so that it would be at the correct height for myself. This in turn helped the recording too as my voice would be closer to the microphone and the sound picked up clearer than if I had not adjusted the microphone stand.

I learnt during the time in the audio studio how to successfully record a voice over recording for use in a visual project. In future projects, I will be able to use this knowledge to my advantage when thinking of new ideas.

Today, I finished up editing the sound effects to the sequence added with the music soundtrack to make use of parallel sound. I included a thunder sound effect where there is a close up of Tom to highlight that something bad is about to happen. There is also a short sound of a police siren followed by knocking on the door. This is to portray that a policeman is knocking on the door wanting to speak to Tom in connection with his wanted status. However, in the film, I purposely avoided showing a shot of the door or the policeman to signify that it is just heard off screen and that Tom and Phillip are aware but they don't react.
